STLI emphasizes empowerment of people to effect change in their own society, and so our medical programs train local physicians, dentists, nurses and others as part of the health care reform effort of Kyrgyzstan.

Both English and computer skills are key in preparing students for employment in the rapidly changing social and economic climate of Central Asia. Teachers at all levels (community, university and secondary school) are in demand, particularly native English speakers, and those with business and computer expertise.

The community development programs encompass north and south Kyrgyzstan, rural and urban people, and ethnic diversity. A variety of training programs respond to the expressed needs of the communities they serve. The various programs seek to improve communities through training and equipping the local residents with new knowledge and skills.

STLI has community development programs in Agriculture, Dental Prophylaxis, Health Education, Preschool Education, Solar Ovens, and Water Access.
